Manually Assigning Speaker Roles
Last updated: May 8, 2026
Only Supervisors can assign speaker roles.
Assigning the correct role to each speaker (such as Therapist or Participant) helps mpathic provide more accurate feedback and behavior analysis. Behaviors and insights are attributed based on the assigned speaker role.
Only Supervisors with transcript access can assign speaker roles.
If speaker roles are not automatically assigned through your workspace configuration, you may choose to assign them manually. If you are unsure which role to assign, review the transcript and use the generic speaker labels to help identify each speaker correctly.
Steps to Assign Speaker Roles
Open Session Files
In the left menu, select Session Files.
Select a Session
Click View on the session you want to update.
Identify Each Speaker
Before assigning, you may want to check the Transcript View.
Look at what each generic speaker label (Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc.) says to help match roles correctly.
Assign Roles
Just below the media player, click the gear icon.
A window will list each speaker.
Next to each speaker, pick a role: Therapist, Participant, or Other.
Save Roles
Click Save to confirm changes.
This will start reprocessing, making the session temporarily inaccessible.
b. Click Cancel if you want to go back without saving changes.
Wait for Reprocessing
You’ll be returned to Session Files.
The session will show as processing and cannot be opened until finished.
Confirm Your Changes
Open the session again once it is ready.
Check that each new role (Therapist, Participant, Other) appears in place of the speaker numbers.
Make sure these match your intended assignments.
Once complete, the updated speaker roles will appear throughout the transcript and analytics, ensuring accurate feedback for each role.
